Welcome to the OPCC media room. Here you will find information about our media spokesperson, media releases and how to request interviews.
The Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner recognizes that the media is an important stakeholder in the police complaints process. Open communication between the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner and the media is one of the cornerstones of transparency in the police complaint process and accountability to the public we serve.
It is, however, important to note that when responding to media enquiries, the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner must always consider the strict confidentiality requirements of the Police Act and the privacy interests of the involved parties.
All employees of the OPCC must maintain confidentiality in respect of information relating to police misconduct investigations (see section 51.01 of the Police Act). The Police Complaint Commissioner may publicly disclose that an investigation has been initiated or information relating to an investigation if it is considered to be in the public interest.
