Mandate

To identify, research and investigate systemic issues arising from police complaints, or problems identified with the municipal police complaints process and provide meaningful recommendations aimed at preventing police misconduct and improving the system of police accountability.

Examining and investigating issues systemically aims to identify and better understand underlying causes, serves as a catalyst for corrective action and change, and supports public confidence in policing and civilian oversight of police.
