Ready to apply your technical skills in an organization committed to police accountability? The Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner (OPCC) is the office that British Columbians turn to when they have concerns about the conduct of municipal police. We are an impartial agency—independent of police and government—that oversees complaints and investigations involving municipal police officers. We ensure complaints made under the Police Act are resolved in a timely, transparent, and accountable manner, and that the process is accessible to the public. Recently, the Commissioner’s powers were expanded to include investigating systemic issues related to complaints and the complaints process, among other changes. These expanded powers make the modernization of the OPCC’s data architecture more important than ever, to support data-driven and evidence-based decisions and achieve efficiencies in service delivery.

This is a unique opportunity to make your mark in a new position within the organization and to work closely with senior and executive management to carry out important and strategic initiatives for the OPCC. You will have significant responsibility for data transformation, management and integrity; solving data quality issues; and developing data management policies and procedures in support of the Office’s statistical analysis and reporting requirements under the Police Act.  Your work will help inform the public about police accountability and can lead to recommendations aimed at preventing misconduct and improving the system of police accountability.

Reporting to the Senior Research and Policy Analyst, the position will deliver data administration services by providing technical guidance, consultation, technology research, development and implementation across the Office on data standards and policy. The position will research and evaluate data architecture technologies, facilitate standardization of data structures, and recommend guidelines for data modeling standards. The position will also develop analytical and statistical reports, and conduct research and analysis of a wide variety of program, complaint, and demographic data to support the Office’s information and reporting requirements.

The OPCC seeks to foster an inclusive work environment that values diversity, equity, inclusivity and respect. It is our goal to have a workforce that reflects the British Columbians we serve. To support employment equity and diversity in the workplace, we welcome applications from all groups. This includes women, visible minorities, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, persons of diverse sexual orientation, gender identity or expression (LGBTQ2S+), and others who may contribute to diversity in the BC Public Service.
